Responsibilities
Responsible for providing exceptional customer service to domestic and international cargo customers by assisting with all aspects of cargo shipping including: reservations/bookings via telephone and telex, providing rate quotes, and providing regulatory information governing all air shipments.
Utilize CargoTrac and Sonic to book, process, and track shipments, keeping customers advised of status.
Coordinate dispatch/retrieval of freight and mail to and from aircraft, working with load planning and terminal ops to maximize revenue.
Required to have a working knowledge of manuals, tariffs, standards, procedures and reference materials.
Agents must verify cargo by count, weight, dimensions and condition of all pieces.
Must ensure proper and clear labeling of all pieces in the shipment (outbound/inbound).
Must be capable of placing each shipment in the correct destination zone.
Required to train for and pass the Dangerous Goods certification program.
Must possess excellent communication and customer-service skills.
Must be willing and able to multi-task in a physically demanding and fast-paced environment.
Must be willing to work outside in all climate conditions.
Qualifications
Must have the ability to stand, bend, stoop, and crawl for extended periods of time and lift 100 lbs. repeatedly.
Must have demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality.
Must possess a valid STATE driver's license (Suspended, expired, revoked or denied are not considered valid.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must have a high school diploma or GED.
Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer without sponsorship.
Must be flexible to work ANY shift that is assigned to you within a 24 hour/day, 7 day a week operation which can include late nights, early hours, weekends and holidays.
Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to read, write and speak English.
Must be able to successfully pass a pre-placement physical (including strength and hearing/vision testing) and drug screen.
In addition to the passing Continental’s background investigation, candidate must be able to clear a fingerprint-based criminal history check in order to obtain and retain credentials necessary for the position. Position-specific clearances include but are not limited to FAA, TSA, Airport Systems, Port Authority, U.S. Customs and U.S. Postal Service clearances.
Training for these positions will be provided by Continental in one of our HUB locations (Newark, Cleveland, or Houston). The training is paid at the hourly starting rate and will require a full time commitment for a period of up to 5 weeks. Must be able to attend the full time training at a date, time, and location to be selected by Continental and must be able to pass all training with a grade of 90% or better.
Must have resided in the United States for at least 4 ½ of the past 5 years (exceptions include: Active U.S. military personnel, trailing a spouse or dependent of someone in the U.S. military, a missionary, a Peace Corps volunteer, an exchange student, an employee of a U.S. based employer/company working abroad, or extraordinary circumstance).
